The Host University
The Silesian University of Technology (SUT), is the oldest technical university in the Upper Silesia region and one of the most prestigious in Poland. It was established in 1945 and located in the most industrialized area in Poland. For over 70 years of its history, it has always been a public institution, playing a cultural and opinion forming role in the region. The university consists of 13 faculties, one college and one scientific-didactic centre. It offers almost 60 study programmes and about 200 specializations, including the whole spectrum of engineering studies, administration, business analytics, mathematics, sociology and management – including project management – as well as foreign languages and pedagogy. The Silesian University of Technology is ranked 5th among technical universities and 13th among all universities in Poland in the “Perspektywy” Educational Foundation Ranking. Two study programmes: environmental engineering and logistics were considered the best in Poland, which allowed SUT to rank 4th in the whole country in terms of engineering study programmes. In the SCImago Institutions Ranking (SIR), an international classification of higher education institutions, Silesian University of Technology was awarded the 4th place in Poland and 17th in Eastern Europe.
The SUT was recently honoured with an “HR Excellence in Research” Logo, which confirms that the university operates in accordance with the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. SUT was also awarded an ELSEVIER Research Impact Leaders 2016 award in the Engineering and Technology category. Nowadays, SUT educates over 20,000 students at all three levels of study: Bachelor (in Engineering), Master and Doctoral studies. Those programmes are available both as full-time (over 15,000 full-time students) and part-time study. The Silesian University of Technology offers 11 programmes conducted in English.
Education and Congress Center, Gliwice, SUT
The Education & Congress Centre (ECC) at the Silesian University of Technology is planned as the conference venue. The ECC is a dedicated conference facility with 5 large conference halls, several rooms and foyers with a total surface of about 6000 sq. m. and total number of seats exceeding 1000.
The most important parts of ECC are:
- Main hall A (theatre style) of 476 seats,
- Hall B of 250 seats,
- Three halls (C, D, E) of 120 seats each,
- Room F of 70 seats,
- Press room,
- Foyers for coffee breaks, catering, exhibitions and poster sessions.
The ECC is connected to the university building with lecture rooms of 150 – 300 seats, rooms with computers, printers and copy machines. All halls and rooms in the ECC are equipped with video-projector, a set of microphones (wireless), set of videoconference, monitor screen. Wireless internet connection is available (e.g Eduroam) at whole ECC and most of university. ECC is located in the middle part of the university campus with guarded car parks.
